Now, the preview version for Windows is at version 2.4.0 and brings the following fixes and improvements:

• Bring back ride data from Zwift (for Zwift 1.39.0 and later).
• Add the Scotland map

Besides that the installer is now signed with a digital signature. You may still see the Windows SmartScreen warning upon download, though.

That was caused by a change in Zwift earlier this year. Zwift started encrypting the network traffic between the game and the servers, which broke many community tools, e.g. ZwiftMap. If you want to read more about that, find more information in the Zwift Forums or at GitHub where it was announced.

Now, there finally is a preview version (ZwiftMap version 2.3.0) with an new way of getting ride data from Zwift.

Update 2022-12-16: Now at version 2.3.2

Important points:

• This is only for Windows.

• It reads Zwift data from memory instead of capturing network traffic. That will make it more vulnerable to changes in Zwift itself. To work around that ZwiftMap will pull some needed configuration files from a ZwiftHacks server/page. That way it should be possible to handle changes caused by new Zwift version without you having to download and update the software itself, at least in theory. Let’s see how it goes in practice…

There also seems to be a different problem with ZwiftGPS itself so it sometimes doesn’t load the map properly. You you can get it loaded by manually switching worlds in the ZwiftGPS user interface.

Under the hood there has been some other technology updates. Unfortunately it has been necessary to remove the automatic retrieval of rider ID and weight – you now have to enter these profile details manually.

An update for ZwiftMap may still be needed but it will be done server-side and does not require that you download anything. It will follow soon.

For macOS it should also improve the ride metrics display (that was fixed for Windows in the last version 2.1.8 but not for macOS).

ZwiftMap: Use Npcap

To use the network capture features in ZwiftMap for Windows the recommendation is to use Npcap, installed with the WinPcap compatibility option.¹

The ‘Steering allowed’ filter in the ZwiftHacks event list has just been changed to show all the events with ‘steering’ or ‘steeringrace’ tags.

In some cases a route could not be unchecked in the Routes list. It has been fixed.

This is actually a few weeks old, but it is worth mentioning that you can filter fenced events. Most fenced events are configured with the No kick mode, but some are actually configured to Zap flyers.

1. WinPcap and WinPcap10 are outdated and do not work properly in recent Windows 10 versions.

ZwiftGPS now supports all worlds, also Bologna, Crit City, France, and Paris. That means you can see these worlds in both the classic map and the ZwiftGPS map in ZwiftMap

ZwiftMap 2.1.7 is just a small bug fix release because it displayed New York instead of Crit City in the ZwiftGPS window. Oops!
